Frequently Asked Questions

Here's a page entirely dedicated to your most popular questions about me and my work around the region.

Do you sell your work as prints or wall art?

Both. All of my images are available for purchase by tapping, clicking, or by using the Force on that shopping cart you see. Please see my Prints page for the full skinny on all of my fine art prints and media types.

Do you conduct workshops?

I do, along with instruction! Every workshop comes with one hour of post-production instruction via one-on-one with me, or on location if you wish. Please visit my Workshops & Tours page for a full run-down on everything that I currently offer.

Is Jasmine a purebred?

My number one question of all time. Jasmine is 100% purebred. Because she is so popular, I've dedicated an entire page for this spotted terror. Please visit About Jasmine for the full skinny of her life and how she continually makes our lives and my photography a living heaven and hell.

What is your policy on returns/exchanges/refunds?

Satisfaction is number one, two and three priority here. All sales of fine art prints are final unless one of the following occurs:

Products received damaged in its original packaging. While this has never happened, if this occurs please contact me immediately! Damaged prints are treated as a priority.

Shipping to the wrong address or recently changed address. Again, while this has never happened, please contact me immediately!

So, I'm visiting Bend for the first time ever. Any places that you recommend?

Welcome! What took you so long? You'll of course, want to check out our claims-to-fame which are the Cascades Lakes Highway, Smith Rock State Park, Pilot Butte, the Old Mill District, and any of the day-use areas along the Deschutes River. Got your hiking boots? Then you're good to go.

Do you shoot anywhere else outside of Oregon?

I do, but not as often as I'd like. I have a handful of images from my time spent in Nevada and photos are continually showing up in my Newest Work gallery.

How can I keep up with your new work?

Please check into my Newest Work gallery as often as you can! I'm quite fortunate to be in the field at least 100 days a year and it's quite possible that you'll run into me. Just look for the spunky little Dalmatian pulling around a tall, lanky guy with a "Bend" ballcap and a teal backpack. Advised: follow the scent of Mountain Dew and granola bars.

You can also find work and videos that I post once a week exclusively on Instagram @stanleypaulphoto!

What about post-processing?

The digital age is upon us and I have fully embraced it. Most of my images are considered ready for export in anywhere from one to five hours, depending on the image. My specialty panoramas can take weeks to months to complete. Above all, my imagery undergoes a detail "natural" edit strictly focused on preserving all the exact elements found in the field. I'm not a big fan of adding things that weren't there. Some things I never implement, such as replacing skies or adding sunbeams. Not to say these are "bad" techniques, I just choose not to incorporate them into my work.

Lightroom or Photoshop?

This is the question people often ask me ... aside from "where did you get that hat?" Both LR and PS have their place in post and some of my fellow photographers swear to one or the other. I find myself using Photoshop more because I'm able to work with layers. Lightroom provides a more expedited workflow (such as base tuning, RAW processing) that can be great when you're pressed for time, or what I call "pinch editing." For me personally, they both integrate seamlessly into my workflow.

Your content is amazing! How do you obtain that look?

My look is a bit unique and a product of fifteen plus years of self-taught photography and processing skills. I have a few videos on YouTube featuring some of my processing techniques, and due to demand, I will be making more in the future. If you'd like to learn more about achieving that look or just picking up a few quick techniques that you might now have known, contact me to set up a live processing session!

How did you get started in photography?

As mentioned before, my signature look is a child of about fifteen plus years of self-taught photography. Before my affair with landscapes came into being, my fascination ironically began with ghost towns specifically, Bodie, California. I treated myself to an all-metal K1000 body from a pawn shop for a whopping fifty bucks when I was 15 and with every chance, started picking apart ghost towns using simple elements such as form, shapes, and textures in both color and black & white. This is where much of my technique began to take form. A year later, I bought a slide scanner (envision a giant paperweight), and picked up a copy of Adobe Photoshop Elements 2.0. I can't tell you how utterly fascinated I was that I had the ability to process in ... *ahem* 8-bit depth. Since then, things have spiraled into a whole new world of opportunity with the digital age while still implementing the very same vision I had at that ripe old age. Much of my work today still has those simplistic elements and no doubt, the ghost of that K1000 haunting every frame.
